Not Everything Needs AI

When I envision hope, I think about Bhutan and the way they've been carbon-negative (a very good thing) since 2015. Long before AI, they've actively lowered greenhouse emissions by protecting old-growth forests, planting more trees, and investing in renewable energy.In its current state, AI burns through a wealth of natural resources, using up land, water, and electricity. Although it has its uses, it also comes at an environmental cost.Most people wouldn't drive for a 5-minute walk, and they wouldn't pilot a plane for a 20-minute drive. We need to be just as mindful towards the use of new technology.Besides, more speed isn't always the answer. As Warren Buffet once said, "No matter how great the talent or efforts, some things just take time. You can’t produce a baby in one month by getting nine women pregnant."With a little grit, there are other ways to optimize results. As we work in balance with nature, we build industries without losing the fullness and sweetness of life.

Exploring the idea of a soul, Nobel laureate, Wislawa Szymborska once wrote, "We can count on it when we’re sure of nothing and curious about everything. Among the material objects, it favors clocks with pendulums and mirrors, which keep on working even when no one is looking."These words exemplify how I feel about crows. Keen and highly-adaptable, they survive multiple climates and exist in almost every country in the world. Drawn to novel problems, they analyze and tinker until the job is done.
